Welcome to Leland Iron Works

Welcome to The News from Leland Iron Works. Lee Kelly has been called an “Oregon Treasure” and one of our region’s most important artists. This blog comes to you from his studio, Leland Iron Works, with the goal of updating, delighting and informing visitors about new happenings with Lee Kelly’s work.

My name is Kassandra and I am Lee Kelly’s daughter. Some of you may know me from the Hive Encaustic blog where I have been very quiet of late. In December 2015, I took a job in Lee Kelly’s office which at first seemed like a small and manageable job. But the scope of work has grown to include sorting and documenting all Lee’s drawings from the last seven decades and creating an inventory of all the sculpture on the property.

Working together with staff from the Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Lee’s long-time gallery affiliation, much of this work is done, and I am now moving on to maintaining a website, assisting in the shop, and documenting many of the sculptures that have sold over the years.

I want this blog to show what it’s like to see sculptures being built, from idea to completion. Along the way, I hope to tell the story of life at Leland Iron works from season to season.
